ive always thot that people who ascribe to the dort canons should not call themselves calvinists but dortian calvinists bc basically dort is just one groups interpretation of calvins doctrinal teachings.
ReplyDeletei mean dort is by far one of the most helpful statements of that line of thinking and i think its invaluable for that reason but im prolly just being picky. its the history nerd in me.
Been a while since I looked at my blog, sorry for the late reply. That's an interesting observation about Dort, but my inclusion of it is less concerned with Calvin's specific teachings rather than a summary statement of what has come to be called "Calvinism".
ReplyDeleteI doubt that the man John Calvin (or even the Dutch Reformed of the 17th century for that matter) would be too excited about Baptists claiming their teachings and Calvin would'nt have been too happy about Baptists calling ourselves "Calvinists".
But as it stands, I'm betting that the old divines are beside themselves with joy right about now, and it just keeps getting better for them.
